Latest company news about How an Ice Bath Tub with an External Chiller Works

An ice bath tub setup is two products working together: a round tub you sit in, and a separate square unit that keeps the water cold. The two are joined by hoses, and the unit is what turns a tub of water into a repeatable cold plunge rather than a bag of ice that melts by lunchtime.

That distinction matters more than it sounds, because it decides what you are actually buying. A tub is a tub. The unit carries the engineering, the electrical requirement and the part of the specification that has to be confirmed with the supplier. This article covers how the two fit together, what has to be settled before an order, and - first, because it belongs first - the safety rules that apply to cold water immersion.

What an Ice Bath Tub Setup Actually Is

The reference configuration has five visible elements, and it is worth naming them the way the product drawings do:

  • A rounded rim - the top ring you grip when you get in and out
  • A fabric wall with vertical supports - the body of the tub, held upright by supports rather than by water pressure alone
  • Cover straps - a separate cover that fastens down with webbing straps and clips
  • A square external unit - the cold-water unit, sitting on the floor beside the tub
  • Two hose connections - the tub has two ports, and two hoses run between the tub and the unit

There is also a filter canister in the hose line, visible beside the unit, and a side pocket on the tub wall.

What the drawings deliberately do not show is a set of measurements. The dimension sheet is titled "dimensions to confirm" for a reason: the final outer diameter, tub height, port positions and unit footprint follow the approved drawings for your order rather than a fixed catalogue figure.

Two Ways to Run It

The configuration chart is the clearest single image of this product, because it splits the offer in two.

Configuration What is in the box Who it suits
Tub only The tub, the cover and the supports Buyers who already have their own cooling method, or who plan to add the unit later
Tub + external unit The tub, the cover, the unit, the hoses and the filter Buyers who want a complete, repeatable cold plunge setup

Selling the tub on its own is not a stripped-down version of the product - it is a legitimate configuration. Plenty of projects start with the tub and add the unit once the site's power supply and drainage have been worked out. What matters is that the purchase scope is written down clearly, because "tub only" and "tub plus unit" differ by an electrical appliance, a hose set and a filter.

Configuration options for an ice bath tub: tub only, and tub with an external chiller unit

What the External Unit Does — and What It Does Not

The unit is a chiller. It circulates water out of the tub, through the unit, and back - removing heat from the water so the temperature you started with is held for longer than ice alone would manage.

It does not heat the water. This is a cooling product. If a project needs warm water, that is a different machine and a different conversation.

The unit's exterior is a closed square case with top hose connections and a side vent for air movement. Because the unit is an electrical appliance operating next to a body of water, its electrical specification, installation conditions and certification position are confirmed per project - we do not publish figures for them here, and we would be cautious of any listing that does. Ventilation around the case, the distance from the tub, and the power supply available at the installation point all have to be settled with the site in mind.

The Tub: Rim, Wall and Cover

Three details decide how the tub behaves in daily use.

The rounded rim. It is the part you hold. A broad, rounded rim is easier on the hands when you are lowering yourself in or climbing out, which is exactly when a slippery grip matters most.

The fabric wall and vertical supports. The wall is a fabric panel held by supports, which is what makes the tub free-standing and packable. The exterior detail images show how the rim rolls into the wall and how the supports sit against it.

The cover and its straps. The cover fastens with webbing straps and clips rather than sitting loose on top. A cover does two jobs: it keeps debris out between sessions, and it slows the heat coming back into the water when the tub is not in use - which is the difference between a unit that keeps up and one that runs constantly.

Fabric composition, wall construction and the fittings used at each port are confirmed on the approved sample, because they are the parts most likely to be specified differently from one project to the next.

Safety Comes Before Settings

Cold water immersion carries real risk, and it is not a disclaimer paragraph - it is the operating instruction. Please read it as one.

Never use a cold plunge alone. Cold water triggers an involuntary gasp and a sharp rise in heart rate and blood pressure in the first seconds of immersion. That response is normal, it is brief, and it is also why a second person should be present.

Talk to a doctor before you start if you have a heart condition, high blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy or any circulatory condition, or if you are pregnant. For some people, cold water immersion is not appropriate at all.

Children must not use the tub unsupervised, and young children should not use it at all.

Start far shorter than you think you need to. Get in, stay briefly, get out. Build up over sessions rather than in one sitting.

Get out immediately if you feel unwell - shivering you cannot control, numbness, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest tightness or confusion. Warm up gradually; do not use a hot shower straight away.

Keep the water clean, and keep the installation safe. The tub sits on a floor that will get wet, and the unit is an electrical appliance nearby. Confirm floor loading, drainage and the power supply for your specific location before filling anything.

This product is not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and it is not a therapy device. It is a tub of cold water. Any benefit you get from using it is your own experience, not a claim this page is making.

Considerations Before You Order

The checklist that ships with this product is a pre-order list, not a packing list. It asks a buyer to confirm five things: the tub exterior and cover, the unit case version, the two hose connections, the size drawing, and the approved sample.

That order is deliberate, and it is worth walking through:

Before ordering, confirm Why it matters
Tub exterior and cover Colourway and cover style are specified per project
Unit case version The case is offered in more than one finish and must match the tub
Two hose connections Fittings and hose length have to be right for the layout
Size drawing Outer diameter, height, port position and unit footprint follow the approved drawing
Approved sample The final reference for appearance and dimensions

Confirm configuration before order. Everything above is a specification item, and a project that settles them at the sample stage does not have to reopen them at the packing stage.

What You Can Specify

Category What can be set
Tub colourway The reference range shows three tub styles
Unit case The reference range shows three case finishes
Tub size Custom size options are offered, confirmed on the drawing
Cover Cover style and fastening arrangement
Hose connections Port positions and hose configuration
Filter Filter arrangement in the hose line
Branding Private label for OEM and ODM projects
Packaging Carton configuration for retail or distributor programmes

OEM and ODM here describe the project enquiry route, not a promise of unlimited variation: the available options, the installation conditions and the supplied-item list are all confirmed against the approved sample and the confirmed order.

Figures We Confirm, Not Guess

A short list of things this page deliberately does not state, and why:

  • Capacity - how much water the tub holds. It depends on the final diameter and height, which are confirmed on the drawing.
  • Cooling performance - how far the unit brings the water down, or how quickly. It depends on the unit's specification, the water volume, the starting temperature and the room, so a single figure would describe one test rather than your site.
  • Temperature settings - we do not publish a target temperature or a settable range here.
  • Electrical specification - voltage, frequency, power draw and the certification position.
  • Dimensions and weight - including the unit footprint and the filled weight.
  • Filter specification, and the supplied-item list for each configuration.

We would rather hand you an approved sample, a drawing and a written specification than a headline number that will not survive a buyer's compliance review. If any figure above is a hard requirement for your project, raise it at the design stage and it becomes a defined, testable specification.

Working with SHEERFOND

Dongguan Sheerfond New Material Co., Ltd. develops and manufactures far-infrared and graphene heating materials, and designs the thermal systems built around them - in both directions. Our low-voltage heating range covers 3.7 V, 5 V, 12 V, 24 V and 36 V architectures, and our cooling programmes apply the same principle in reverse: moving heat out of a surface or a volume of water rather than into it.

Products are manufactured against project specifications with batch inspection records rather than from a fixed catalogue.

Request a Quotation

Send us your target market, the configuration you need (tub only, or tub with unit), the colourway and case finish, your branding and packaging requirements, your target quantity, and - for a complete setup - what the installation site looks like in terms of power and drainage. We will come back with a design proposal and a sample plan.

Price indication: the setup is quoted per project, because the tub size, unit specification and configuration all move the number. Treat any figure you see before a specification is agreed as indicative only. Final pricing follows your confirmed configuration, order quantity and destination market.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the tub and the external unit?

The tub holds the water. The unit is a chiller that circulates water out of the tub, removes heat from it and returns it. The tub can be ordered on its own, and the unit added as a second configuration.

Does the unit heat the water as well?

No. It is a cooling unit. Cold water immersion is the intended use.

How cold does it get, and how fast?

We do not publish those figures. Cooling performance depends on the unit specification, the water volume, the starting water temperature and the room, so it is confirmed with the sample and the project rather than quoted as one number.

How much water does the tub hold?

Capacity follows the final outer diameter and height, which are set on the approved drawing. We do not publish a capacity before that drawing is agreed.

Can I use it outdoors?

The reference images show both a home gym setting and outdoor use. Whether a specific location is suitable depends on the surface, drainage, the power supply and the weather exposure, and those are site conditions to confirm before ordering.

Is an ice bath safe?

Cold water immersion carries genuine risk. Never use it alone, consult a doctor first if you have a heart or circulatory condition, high blood pressure, diabetes or epilepsy, or if you are pregnant, and get out immediately if you feel unwell. The full safety notes are in the section above.
